1. About This Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how the personal information collected when you use the websites, applications and other services that post a link to this privacy policy (each, a “Service”) will be used by the LexisNexis company that owns or administers the Service (“LexisNexis” or “we”). This privacy policy may be supplemented by additional privacy terms or notices set forth on certain areas of the Service.

The Service collects information from you in two ways: directly from your input and automatically from your use.

2.1 Information you provide

The types of personal information that the Service collects directly from you depends on how you interact with the Service and may include:

  • Internet Protocol ("IP") address used to connect your computer to the Internet;
  • Computer, device and connection information, such as browser type and version, operating system, mobile platform and unique device identifier (“UDID”) and other technical identifiers;

If we combine non-personal information with personal information, the combined information will be treated as personal information for as long as it remains combined.

If you access the Service through an institution-sponsored subscription, your personal information and certain usage data gathered through the Service may be shared with your institution for the purposes of usage analysis, subscription management and compliance, cost attribution and departmental budgeting. The Service may let you post and share personal information, comments, materials and other content. Any information you post or disclose publicly may be collected and used by others, may be indexable by search engines, and might not be able to be removed. Please be careful when disclosing personal information in these public areas.

5. Children’s Privacy

We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13 or target the Service to children under 13.

6. Your Choices and Communications Preferences

You can manage your communications preferences when you register with the Service, by updating your account preferences, by using the “opt-out” or unsubscribe mechanism or other means provided within the communications that you receive, or by contacting us. We reserve the right to notify you of changes or updates to the Service whenever necessary.

7. Access to and Accuracy of Your Information

The Service may allow registered users to directly access the account information they provided and make corrections or updates to that information upon login at any time. The accuracy of such information is solely the responsibility of the user.

You may also request access to and correction of other personal information about you that you have directly provided to us through the Service. To protect your privacy and security, we may require you to verify your identity.

If you request to deactivate your account or delete your personal information, we will endeavor to fulfill your request in accordance with our policies but some personal information may persist in backup copies for a certain period of time and may be retained as necessary for legitimate business purposes or to comply with our legal obligations.

Access to personal information that LexisNexis may gather from public records and other sources is subject to applicable laws and our consumer choice policies.

We use a variety of administrative, physical and technical security measures intended to safeguard your personal information.

9. Cross-Border Transfer of Personal Information

Your personal information may be transferred to and stored in servers and facilities located outside of your country of residence, which may have different personal data protection rules than in your country. When we transfer your personal information, we take steps to ensure that your information remains protected, including through the use of binding written contracts.

10. Retention and Disposal of Your Personal Information 

  1. We hold and use the personal information provided by the registered users during the period in which the registered users use our services.
  2. We dispose the following information after a certain period of time in accordance with the applicable laws.
    - Records on contracts and withdrawal of subscription (term of maintenance: 5 years): the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce Transactions
    - Records on payments and supply of goods (term of maintenance: 5 years): the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce Transactions
    - Records on consumer complaints and processing of disputes (term of maintenance: 3 years): the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce Transactions
    - Records on visits to websites (term of maintenance: 3 months): the protection of Communications Secrets Act
    - Records on participation in events (term of maintenance: 1 year): reasons for maintenance of information in accordance with the corporate policy
    - Other records maintained: until the purpose of collection and use of information is fulfilled.
  3. Notwithstanding the regulations of the previous paragraph, when there is a need to maintain the personal information in accordance with the applicable laws, including the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce Transactions or when the purpose, period, and specific items of personal information are defined and notified to respond to legal disputes including litigation or settlement of charges, we may extend the retention of your personal information.

11. Method of Disposal of Personal Information

Your personal information is immediately disposed of after the purpose of its collection and use have been fulfilled. Personal information saved in a digital format is deleted by using technology that prevents the recovery of records.

  1. Procedure of disposal
    - Information entered by registered users for subscription or other purposes is disposed of for the protection of information in accordance with the corporate policy and other applicable laws after the purpose of its collection has been fulfilled.
    - The above information, unless otherwise required by law, shall not be used for purposes other than the original purpose.
  2. Method of disposal
    - Personal information printed on paper is shredded or incinerated for disposal.
    - Personal information saved in a digital format is deleted by using technology that prevents the recovery of records.
